Here’s a quick summary of what we know so far about this new BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X scope.
Glass Improvements
Finally we’re getting a much needed glass improvement. According to many, the glass in the existing BDX lines of scopes is just not good enough to justify the price of these scopes. The BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X uses Sig HDX glass, which is an improvement over the current BDX scopes. HDX is reportedly Japanese glass. According to reports by others reviewing HDX glass binoculars, the glass is good but not on par with high-end brands like Swarovski or Leica in terms of pure optical performance, especially in low light.
The New Head’s Up Display Replaces Hold-over dots
Another change with the BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X56MM from the original BDX is that on long-range shots, you’re no longer forced to choose between zooming the scope and keeping the hold-over dot from dropping too low. That was a problem on the original BDX. Now, instead of a hold-over dot, there’s a display inside the scope that shows the number of MOA/MIL (or yardage) dialed in real-time. So you know exactly where you are in dialing your dope. And of course the BDX rangefinder is calculating your dope and sending it to the scope. Super awesome tech.
The Elevation Turret
The old BDX elevation turret had no zero-stop, it was really just unsatisfactory. On the BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X56MM that’s been replaced with a new proper elevation turret.
Legit Reticles
Many of the BDX scopes, to date, have had phony reticles that were were not functional for holdovers if the electronics failed. This was a big downer for us. The BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X56MM has two real reticles to choose from and both can be used for holdovers, so that’s another improvement.
Lots of Elevation Adjustment
The BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X56MM has 50 mils of elevation adjustment which is a big plus in our book.
Potential Con – Excessive Magnification
A potential con for the BRAVO6T-BDX 5-30X scope is almost nobody, in our opinion, should be buying scopes with 5-30X magnification. Excess magnification is the rule, not the exception, nowadays. Almost everyone thinks more magnification is better, when in fact it’s worse. For a whole slew of reasons. We’ve written blog articles about why this is, but in any case, the people who are going to buy 5-30X scopes think they need 5-30X magnification, and if that’s you, more power to you. But if you’re shooting 300 yards or less on a regular basis, consider the 3-18X option instead.
Potential Con – We’d Prefer German Glass
This Sig BRAVO6T-BDX scope is just optically not going to perform at the level of a Tangent Theta, Schmidt & Bender, etc. In fact, we’re guessing the quality of the glass will be lower than you’ll find in other scopes with Japanese glass, like the Vortex HD Razor line. For some, not having the highest level of optical performance will be a deal-breaker.
Potential Con – Price
Will the improved performance of the BRAVO6T-BDX justify Sig doubling the price of these scopes versus the previous BDX line? We think the answer is probably yes, but that remains to be seen.
Overall, we are excited about this scope.
At Sightlok, We Use and Love Sig BDX
We use BDX scopes and have pretty much since the technology was introduced. We’re LPVO fans though, so we’d prefer to have a BRAVO6T-BDX 1-6X LPVO version. We feel field-of-view is critical for most tactical and hunting applications. Starting at 5X is excessive unless you’re a long-range shooter exclusively, meaning the shortest shots you’re taking are in excess of 500 yards.
If you’re thinking about buying this scope, here’s 5 legit reasons to buy it from us:
1. You can pre-order and get it faster
2. We actually use BDX scopes on our own rifles and know the tech inside-out
3. We publish 100% honest and unbiased reviews of Sig optics
4. We offer timely, expert support to all our customers
5. Products come directly from Sig warehouses which eliminates the chance you’ll receive a counterfeit. (Online retailers like Amazon are struggling with fake brand name riflescopes and other optics).
Sig’s marketing speak for the scope is as follows:
The BRAVO6T-BDX is the most advanced rifle optic on the market, blending the functionality of a premium first focal plane riflescope with the capabilities of an advanced ballistic computer.
SIG SAUER’s all-new eTRAK elevation dial leverages ZeroSync technology to monitor user input and manipulate the calculated shoot-to distance in the optic’s heads-up display, eliminating the need to reference charts or range cards. Simply rotate the eTRAK dial until the displayed shoot-to distance corresponds with the target distance and engage without ever leaving your cheek weld.
ZeroSync connects the eTRAK elevation dial with the power of Applied Ballistics while accounting for prior adjustments and providing a custom solution that always represents the current conditions and ensures ease of operation when tenths of a second matter.
Powered by a 6x magnification optical system, the BRAVO6T-BDX delivers a sharp, bright image using SIG SAUER’s proven HDX™ lenses for unrivaled performance in varied light.
